Faculty Spotlight of the week goes to Laura Phillips!
Laura Phillips, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, has worked in a variety of roles in education for nearly forty years. She has taught middle and high school ELA, including AP Language and AP Literature as well as reading intervention and worked in multiple roles in school administration in both public and independent schools, serving as a principal, assistant principal, and Dean of Academics. Her passion is working with curriculum and instruction, striving to ensure that teachers have effective tools and supports that meet their needs.
Her educational philosophy centers around ensuring the development of the total child – success in academics supported by extracurriculars, community service, and Christ-centered activities. She strongly believes that each child has individual gifts, and it is our responsibility as educators to foster these gifts and help to develop them to their fullest potential.
Laura has been married to JMA History Teacher Bob Phillips for forty-one years. They have one daughter, Shelley Ann, who recently graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a BS in Chemistry; she will start graduate school at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in the fall. Laura enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and any sort of game or puzzle.
